Part One. I believe this is my most successful photograph for this assignment because it was the hardest to obtain. I went out of my normal subject realm and photographed my cat--Magnolia. This image, like Welton's uses a bulls-eye approach and ambient lighting. The lighting is diffused. While the cat in my photo is not surrounded by my climbing gear, she is inside my tent. Both images portray the idea of cats in outdoorsy settings, which is what I believe Welton was trying to obtain. The most challenging part of the assignment was not to imitate the the photograph that Welton captured, but to take his ideas and create my own. It would have been really easy to put my climbing gear on my cat and snap a picture. It would have looked the same as the photograph that Welton took but with a different cat. I had to think about what he was trying to convey and then recreate that message. Another example would be the picture of the silhouette. When I looked at that image, I was thinking about the serenity of nature and then recreated that with the image of my father standing on a cliff. In the future, I will continue to think about the message I want to convey. I will challenge myself to continue to use photographic approaches to the best of my advantage to support the message I am conveying. Part Two.
http://sweeneyphotography.weebly.com/blog/emulating-a-professional-photographer I was drawn to your photograph because of its reality. It highlights the daily life in the city. I first was drawn to the suitcase with out a person, and then I moved down and saw the man standing and the people on the bench. The incorporation of one-point perspective helps draw in the the viewer. The color of the sky against the colors of the city help to make each other pop out. This photograph gives me a nostalgic feeling and a longing to be somewhere. It may be my computer, but the photo looks slightly out of focus, if that's the case, I would resize or make sure the photograph is more in focus. (If it is in focus, please disregard, I'm sorry.) I really liked the execution and your interpretation behind it. Great Job!

Part One. I believe this is my most successful photo because it captures a long tradition--the sacrament of the Lord's supper. As a Christian myself, it is incredible to think that people have partaken in this for over two thousand years--to feel a sense of connection to them is incredible to me. Not only is this a beautiful sacrament, but it is also a beautiful scenery. The most challenging part of this assignment was to incorporate the previous knowledge and maintain good photograph skills while trying to incorporate higher meaning to the work. For future photos of this sort, I will continue to keep a conscious effort to keep all aspects in mind. Part Two.
http://art180lindseyweiss.weebly.com/ I really like the creativity behind your photograph. I like how you incorporated the previous assignment to this one. This image is captivating but describes perfectly. To improve upon the image, I would try to get the ligthting on the right side of the xray to match the left. There is a glare at the top and the lower right corner which is slightly distracting. Great job nonetheless! I really enjoyed this photo and your series for this project! Part One. This is Penny and Sparrow performing at Appaloosa Music Festival. Out of the photographs I took and choose for this project, this by far is my favorite. It is classy and classic, but further more, it captures the emotion behind their lyrics they're singing. This was accomplished through the diffused lighting and converting the photo to black and white--eliminating the color to focus on the subjects emotion. For this series, accomplishing the light portion was the most challenging aspect because it was the most unfamiliar to me. Coming into the course I was informally antiquated with different composition techniques, but have never sought out different light circumstances. Forcing myself to seek out different light helped me to distinguish between the varieties and how to use them to my advantage. I have a plethora of diffused lighting images, and sadly realized that front light is not the same. In the future, I plan to consciously seek out lighting situations and combine them with composition while keeping color in mind. Instead of the lighting source in my photographs taking the role as something that 'happens', I will use it with the combination of photographic elements to my advantage to create an image with a powerful expression, which is my goal for my photography. Part Two. Andrew, I really appreciated and enjoyed your photograph. I was initially drawn to this image because it is in black and white--I was drawn to the bench, then down the path. I like how you kept the bench towards the upper right of the photo. It helps to draw the line of vision down the path. In my humble, novice opinion, if your intentions were for the bench to become the main focus of the photo, the thickness of the pathway in front of the bench are slightly distracting. I would either move the frame so that the bench goes further to the upper right to capture more of the approaching path, or lower it to the lower left to capture more of the scenery behind the bench--using the rule of thirds--and increasing the depth of field. The contrast between the bench, trees, and path really work together, creating a powerful image. I like the bench in conjunction with the path as it turned. It creates a nostalgic feeling, who sat on the bench, where did they go, in life, that day, etc. Awesome job. http://art180andrewmaynes.weebly.com/blog/photo-dozen-challenge#comments |
